About our Choir
We have about 50 members who live mostly in Cumbernauld, but we have some who travel from Airdrie, Motherwell, Wishaw, Strathaven, Stirling, Falkirk, Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs, and Linlithgow. We are a choir of mixed voices, SATB, and sing a range of mainly classical music. We rehearse weekly from the end of August through to late May or early June.
In December we present an annual Christmas Carol Concert and a charity Carol Concert for the elderly and disabled.. Our other annual concert is usually in May or early June. We alternate the content of this concert between performing a major sacred work with orchestra one year and a lighter opera chorus or songs from the shows type concert the following year.
We have recently introduced a 'Sing-a-long' event with fund-raising in mind and we intend to keep this in our programme for the future Another annual fund-raiser is our Musical Coffee Morning in March. We also raise money is by offering our group of 12 or so 'Wedding Voices' to perform and enhance the general singing at weddings.
Locally
we visit Residential Homes at Christmas and raise money for the hospice movement
from time to time.
About our Conductor
Susan Dingle B Mus (hons) M Mus
We are fortunate to have such a highly qualified conductor. Susan was brought up in Edinburgh, leaving there for Sheffield to complete her first degree B Mus (hons) in French horn. She then completed a post graduate qualification in administration at Napier University, followed by seven years arts administration with Edinburgh Festival, Scottish Opera and Welsh Opera. Deciding that conducting was her thing she set off for The State Conservatory of St Petersburg for two and half years followed by a year at RSAMD in Glasgow.
Along the way, Susan has won The Hugh S. Roberton Prize 1998 for conducting plus the 1997/8 Post Office Young Conductors Award. She has worked with The Leicester Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Opera on a Shoestring, Paragon, Lontano and the Kelvin Ensemble.
She is also Principal Guest Conductor of the Highland Regional Youth Orchestra and works regularly for the Scottish Schools Orchestra Trust. Opera work includes performances of Dido and Aeneas (Purcell), A Midsummer Night ’s Dream (Britten), La Traviata (Verdi), Suor Angelica (Puccini) and Madama Butterfly (Puccini), and The Marriage of Figaro (Mozart). Future plans include concerts with the Highland Chamber Orchestra, Highland Region Youth Orchestra, Highland Region Wind Band, and the Renfrewshire School Symphony Orchestra
Her experience of studying in Russia allows her to teach the language and has led to her being Principal Russian Language coach for the Scottish Opera production of The Queen of Spades. For up to date information see Susan's own website
